The Bushido Karate Association presents… The SUMMER OF KARATE Challenge!

Join us online this summer for a series of karate challenges you can do in your own home. 
Some will be physical, some will be mental, all will be fun! 

What: A series of 5 karate challenges for you to try. Participate in all 5 to win a prize!

When: From June 1 – Aug 9, with a new challenge posted every 2 weeks!

How to Participate:

  • Choose your category (recommended categories based on rank, but if you would like to try harder challenges you can go up a category)
  • Check the current active challenge for your category
  • Submit your challenge response
  • Check back for the next challenge! 
  • Enter all 5 challenges to win a prize!

Category One: Young Grasshopper

(recommended for white – yellow belts)

Challenge 1 (June 1 – 14)
Challenge description: “Submit 3 photos and/or video clips of yourself doing karate outside. Be creative!”

Challenge 2 (June 15 – 28)
Challenge description: Submit a video of you throwing 10 punches/kicks/blocks while counting to 10 in Japanese. Bonus: Try counting higher!

Challenge 3 (June 29 – July 12)
Challenge description: “How fast and how many times in a row can you do this balance flow drill? Submit a video of your longest run!”

Challenge 4 (July 13 – July 26)
Challenge description: “Create and show us your bunkai — your analysis of the meaning of a technique — for a sequence from Power Kata. Feel free to demonstrate on (willing) family members!”

Challenge 5 (July 27 – Aug 9)
Challenge description: “Create your own kata! It needs to be at least 6 moves long. You can use traditional karate moves, self-defence moves, or any other techniques you’d like to include.   Come up with a name for it and film yourself demonstrating it. Get as creative with your video as you like!”

Category Two: Eye of the Tiger

(recommended for yellow stripe – green)

Challenge 1 (June 1 – 14)
Challenge description: “Submit 3 photos and/or video clips of yourself doing karate outside. Be creative!”

Challenge description: “Find the Japanese terms for all of the techniques in the video, and submit a clip of yourself performing the sequence while calling out each move in Japanese.”

Challenge description: “How fast and how many times in a row can you do this hand speed flow drill? Submit a video of your longest run!”
