Thank you to Sensei Iain Abernethy

We recently wrapped up Sensei Iain’s Canadian tour thanks to Sensei Freeman’s efforts and with support and assistance from Sensei Bill Hynes (Millwoods), Sensei Vic (St. Albert), Sensei Heather Fidyk (Calgary), and Sensei Darren Marshal (Toronto).
Sensei Abernethy’s approach to studying kata and bunkai were very well received and the Bushido Karate Association would like to thank him for sharing his insights and depth of knowledge in this field.
Plus it was just great fun.

Training With Sensei Iain

Students, I’m back from a two-week family vacation in England. A karate highlight for me was visiting Sensei Iain in Cockermouth, and training with him in his garage and at his dojo during a regular class. In the one-on-one session, we worked Naihanchin, while his regular class was a good overview of many of his training ideas. I did much of my work during class with Sensei Murray Denwood, Yodan, who features in his Bunkai Jutsu DVDs. My girls had a great time playing with his kids, and it was nice to finaly meet his wife Helen. I’ve posted a few pictures on the club’s facebook site, so have a look!

Self Protection Seminar

Friends, The BKA was pleased to host a self-protection seminar on February 28 for interested members of the community. Material from the seminar is hosted in our “Links” page. Here is a great testimonial from one of our clients: “Wow, it was no sissy course! I have come away from it with an aching right arm, a swollen and bruised knuckle, along with a bruised leg. BUT more than that, I personally have come away with it with the awareness of how easily a man could take me down, how difficult it would be to defend myself against an attacker. Thank you for the tools you provided for our ladies to avoid situations that could cause a potential incident, as well as for the encouragement and confidence you have given each of us to fight back. The two hours was so worth our time, and ultimately could be life changing”
